Reflecting on her inspiration, Fur shared, "I think I purchased the stone about three years ago, which means it was about two years before I ever started metalsmithing." She recalls scrolling through various Metalsmith pages on Instagram and delving into YouTube tutorials, intrigued by the intricate process of setting stones. Little did she know, this serendipitous encounter with the agate would ignite her passion for metalsmithing in the years to come.
Designing the Masterpiece:
The design of Fur's piece was deeply rooted in the natural allure of the agate itself. "The design was inspired by the stone," Fur explains. "It looked like a tree on a bank with running water below it." Envisioning the metalwork as a complement to the agate's inherent beauty, Fur aimed to create a piece that echoed the organic flow of nature. "I thought it would be nice to have the metal follow the natural curve of the bottom of the piece," she elaborates. "It would either look like water or hills." With meticulous attention to detail, Fur envisioned a silver frame that would encase the agate, akin to a masterpiece crafted by nature itself.

Commissioned as a gift for his wife on their anniversary, the piece was met with heartfelt appreciation. "She was so happy to receive my piece as well," Fur shares, her pride evident in her words.

"They both are very discerning people, with great taste, and in the art world for most of their lives," Fur reflects. "Their acknowledgment and encouragement were a huge validation for me."
